When packing, please keep in mind the YSSS Dress Code:
Scholars must wear attire appropriate for a professional environment during mentorship sites. More casual attire is acceptable during social and recreational activities. Clothing and accessories may not display language or graphics that depict drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, violence, discrimination, or vulgar language. Please note that closed toe shoes and long pants will be required to work in all university labs.
Clothing
- Sneakers/comfortable shoes (you will be doing a lot of walking!)
- Closed-toed shoes (required if you will be working in a lab)
- Long pantsĀ (required if you will be working in a lab)
- OneĀ to two dress outfits for the Academic Showcase on July 26, 2024 and another professional event.
- Absolutely NO shorts, T-shirts, or sneakers at this professional event
- Casual clothes for weekend activities (think about what would you wear if your school was going on a field trip?)
- Sweatshirt/Jacket
- Pajamas/Comfortable Lounge Clothes
Personal Items
- Toiletries (e.g., shampoo, conditioner, soap, personal hygiene products, hair brush or accessories)
- Toothbrush and paste
- Sunglasses
- Sun block
- Medications (Note: Program participants are solely responsible for bringing and taking any medication. Students seeking an accommodation to this policy must contact the YSSS Office at lisa.muller@uconn.edu.)
- Shower caddie
- Shower shoes (flip flops)
- Feminine Hygiene Products
- Swim suit (For weekend excursions and swimming pool at Mansfield Community Center)
- Beach towel
- Extra towel(s)

- Earbuds or Headphones
- Laundry detergent – (if you need a specific kind due to allergies)
- Clothes hangers
- Alarm clock
- Backpack

- Dry-Erase memo board for dorm room door

- Umbrellas and/or rain ponchos
- You may want to pack a snack in case you experience any delays while traveling
*UCONN will provide a linen package that contains the following items: bedsheets, a light blanket, pillows, pillow cases, towels (2) and a washcloth.
