How do students apply?
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will send you information on registering for the YSSS program. If you have not received the information, please contact your Jack Kent Cooke Foundation educational advisor.
What should students bring?
Students should bring essential items such as sneakers, appropriate clothing, a sweatshirt/jacket, toiletries, laundry detergent, backpack, and school supplies.
For a more complete list, see our Preparing for YSSS page.
Where can I send packages?
The mailing address will be as follows:
Your Name (Student Name)
2131 Hillside Road, Unit 3007
Storrs, CT 06269-3007
Mail is delivered every weekday to the YSSS office, and will be delivered from there to the residence hall on weekday afternoons. Please note that we do not receive mail on weekends.
Where will students live?
Students will live in a residence hall on the University of Connecticut campus. Students will be housed in a suite with 2-3 other students, sharing a bathroom. Additionally, students will be provided with 3 meals a day that they will choose from menu selections at a dining hall on campus.
For more information about the experience, please visit our YSSS Experience page.
When can I visit?
Parents and other family members may visit on Sundays, depending on the participants’ schedules. Students will be partaking in mandatory field trips on Sundays, so when they return or have down time they may have visitors.
Participants may not have visits from friends, unless the friends accompany a participant’s parents to campus.
Visitors may only visit the common areas of the residence hall and may not go onto a participant’s floor. The only exception to this rule is on move-in day (July 7) and move-out day (July 27). Visitors are not permitted to stay overnight in the residence hall.
