Preparing for YSSS

How do I apply for YSSS?

You will be applying and enrolling in YSSS program through the UConn Pre-College Summer program’s application portal. An email from the YSSS program will be sent with information on how to apply. Applications will be due Monday, March 18, 2024 by 11:59pm (Eastern Standard Time). Site preference will be given to the scholars that return their application forms by the deadline.  Those scholars that miss the deadline will have to pick from the remaining sites after everyone else has been placed. If you are interested in getting a head start on your application, you can begin completing some of the materials here.

Is there anything I need to do for the YSSS program before my arrival?

We recommend you review the Pre-Travel Checklist before departing for the YSSS program.  All pre-program trainings should be done before your departure to ensure you can fully participate in the work at your mentorship site.

What Should I Pack?

Comfortable, casual clothing is appropriate for most sites and other activities. Please remember that you will be working with university professionals – we encourage you to dress in a manner that is respectful to your mentors and your peers. Please keep in mind the potential for variable weather and for varied temperatures within buildings (i.e., it might be hot outside but cold in an air-conditioned building). Please consider our suggested packing list for recommended items. All scholars should bring the laptops provided to them by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to the program.

How can I get to the YSSS program?

Travel is arranged by JKCF. If you are planning on driving to the program or your parents are hoping to visit during the program, driving directions to the dormitory will be sent to you directly via email.
